Raeburn & Fleming Quaich

For those of you who don't know what the above trophy is for it's the annual inter club game against East Kilbride and Haremyers. This year saw a closely contested competition which could have gone either way, all games went down to the wire with Lesmahagow edging ahead in the last ends to finish with 2 wins and +5 shots. The highest up Lesmahagow rink was Iain McAlister, Iain Callan, Rona McAlister and Seonaid Wilson. Congratulations to all the Lesmahagow players.

Gavin Scott Pairs Final

This year's final was contested by Jim & Iain Callan against Lucy Levack & Charlie Murray and saw a dramatic conclusion to the match. In the 4th end, trailing by 2 shots, Charlie Murray fell on the ice causing a wound above his left eye. Charlie was taken to hospital as a precaution and the match was abandoned.

The provisional date for the rematch is Sunday 11 March at 2.30 pm. Please come along and support the finalists, you never know what might happen this time.

Here is a copy of the advice from the Royal Club.

South Lanarkshire Bonspiel

Sunday saw this year's Bonspiel for the South Lanarkshire Rosebowl. This year we had 8 teams participating and the ice was partially funded by Lesmahagow Development Trust. Everyone seemed to enjoy the event, some more than most and the overall winners with a score of +14 were the rink of Bob Allan, Charlie Murray, Jimmy Anderson and Nora Jackson.

Crosthwaite Quaich Result

Well, now that your correspondent has his breath back I can reveal that Gordon Gilchrist's rink finished as winners of the Quaich. As I explained last week this went down to the wire with Margo Steele needing a win and a high shots score to take the title. The game swung on the 3rd end when Margo lost a 5 and despite winning 3 of the 4 remaining ends was not able to claw back the deficit.

Congratulations go to Gordon Gilchrist and his rink of Tom Roche, Andy Williamson and Jane Morton. Unfortunately Gordon and his team were not on hand for a photo but here is an artist's impression of the winning team.

Crosthwaite Quaich Finale

Next week sees the last round of games in this year's Quaich competition. We have two teams vying for the honours, Gordon Gilchrist who has 11 points and has completed his games hotly pursued by Margo Steele with 9 points and one game remaining. This could go down to the wire with the overall winner being decided by shots up if points are level. If you are able please come along next Tuesday to support the competitors.

Stranraer Weekend

A slightly reduced number of club members made the trip to Stranraer this year. As usual the company, the food and the socialising were to the normal high standard. Your correspondent attempted to make a photographic record, as in previous years, but was inhibited by the use of super injunctions by some of those present. Suffice to say that the 3 Lesmahagow teams acquitted themselves well finishing as the top 3 with Iain McAllister and Jim Stewart competing the final.
The final was a close run affair until the fifth end when Jim Stewart took a 2 shot lead and was able to limit Iain to a single shot in the last end. Congratulations to both teams who now qualify for the Dalrymple Cup weekend.

Iain McAlister with John Tough, Merle Tough & Rona McAlister.

JimStewart with Bob Allan, Jenni Allan & Jane Morton.
