Crosthwaite Quaich - Round 1 Results

6 October 2020

 Welcome to Season 20/21

Dear Members,

Welcome to the new season!

Scottish Curling and Lanarkshire Ice Rink have worked very hard to get curling started. Things will be different but everything is different right now and it will be great to get back on the ice.

I look forward to seeing all of you who are planning to play.

To those of you who feel it’s not for you right now, that’s fine and very understandable. I hope you will remain part of our wonderful, friendly Club and when the time is right, get back to it, as enthusiastic as ever.

Finally, a word of welcome to our new secretary, Louise and a massive thank you to John for his many years in the position. There will be an opportunity in the future for us all to formally thank John and recognise his enormous contribution to the Club. Over the summer there has been a smooth transfer of duties and responsibilities and on behalf of the Club I thank them both for getting us ready for season 2020/2021.

With best wishes,

Club President

 Welcome to Season 2020/2021

It's been a bit of a strange year so far but hopefully curling will bring some normality back to our lives!

As you may know the Ice rink started making ice this week in anticipation of the return to curling on Monday 28th September. Everyone has everything crossed that the scheduled opening date will be met barring any changes in government guidelines.

In the meantime our calendar and competition teams have been updated on the website. I hope to be in a position to confirm everything next week and will email everyone accordingly. If you'd like to take a look the website address is

As it stands our first outing will be Tuesday 6th October at 8.00pm with the first game of the Crosthwaite Quaich. This year we will not be publishing a printed syllabus as the team/dates and times may all be subject to changes lockdown rules continue to change, however we will make sure everyone has a copy of their games and times as well as keeping the website up to date.

You can now sign up for email alerts from the website. Just submit you email address, follow the instructions and respond to the confirmation email that will be sent to your registered email address.

We look forward to seeing you all on the ice really soon!

Congratulations to Iain Callan and Louise O'Donnelly who won the Pairs final for season 2019/20.

Louise was on holiday for the final with Andy Williamson doing a great job as sub. They played against Iain McAlister and Jim Callan. The final was a tense affair, 4-3 after 6 ends. Then Iain and Andy made their move taking a 3 in the seventh to move 2 ahead going into the last end. Things went down to the last shot when Iain McA had a take-out and lie through a very tight port to win the game. His shot didn't quite come off.
A good game - well done to both rinks.

Nethertown Cup

Congratulations to Alan Turner in winning the cup. Skipping for the first time in a Lesmahagow league, his rink - 3rd Willie King, 2nd Andy Williamson and lead Peter Kerbey, lost only one game.

On the last night Alan's rink, Margo's rink and Tom's rink were all in the running. Margo lost her game so it came down to Alan or Tom who were playing each other. It was very close, their match was peeled allowing Alan to win by 1 point.

That result meant Tom's rink - 3rd Alison Taylor, 2nd Phil Marsh and lead Davis Clark were Cup runners-up.

A very close league overall and as usual played in the true spirit of curling.

Crosthwaite Quaich

Congratulations to Iain McAlister, Iain Callan, Andy Williamson and Jane Morton. Worthy winners of the 2019/2020 season Crosthwaite Quaich.

They dropped only 1 point in a 10-10 peeled game against Tom McGregor's rink. Tom, John Veitch, Miller Bowie and Diana McDonald were runners-up.
